ITO Global Logistics – Fast transport of combined heat and power plants to Ukraine
Tassiou Salissou
Challenge: In the midst of the energy crisis in Ukraine, ITO Global Logistics received an urgent order to transport several combined heat and power plants (CHP) from Germany to various regions of the country at short notice. The deliveries were to be made to Khmelnytskyi, Poltava, Kyiv, Kharkiv and other cities – some of which were in areas with limited infrastructure and increased security risks. The biggest challenge was the speed of processing, securing transport routes and complying with all customs and export regulations.
Solution: ITO Global Logistics relied on a multi-stage logistics concept that combined flexibility, security and efficiency:
- Immediate route planning: Within 48 hours, transport routes were analysed and alternative routes identified to avoid delays due to border controls or local restrictions.
- Specialised means of transport: The CHP units were moved using special transport (heavy-duty lorries and, in some cases, rail logistics) to ensure that the sensitive technology reached its destination safely.
- Local handling: By working with our local office in Kiev, local challenges (e.g. road quality, fuel supply) were overcome.
Result: Despite the complex conditions, ITO Global Logistics managed to deliver the combined heat and power plants to their designated locations within just 10 days. The punctual delivery enabled Ukrainian municipalities to stabilise their energy supply, especially during the winter months. The customer praised ITO's professional crisis logistics and ability to provide reliable solutions even under the most difficult conditions.
Conclusion: This case study shows how ITO Global Logistics supports critical infrastructure projects even in crisis regions through rapid decision-making, local expertise and innovative transport solutions. The success of the transport operation underscores the importance of a flexible and resilient supply chain – especially in humanitarian and energy emergencies.
